Our mission is to strengthen the development of Asian American children and their families by providing education, support and empowerment to the families.

Background

     Asian Family Support Center is a project of Gum Moon Women's Residence and the Asian Women’s Resource Center mainly serving the Richmond and Sunset communities. The program provides structured preschool activities for children (1½ to 3½ years old) to develop their motor, social, and cognitive skills. Mental health screenings and assessment are provided on-site for the children. Parent support groups and educational workshops help parents develop effective parenting and leadership skills. The programs are designed to develop and strengthen the lives of children and their families.

History

     Established in 1868, Gum Moon Women’s Residence provides transitional housing facilities for women in transition. In 1984, Gum Moon established a community outreach project known as Asian Women’s Resource Center (AWRC).  The AWRC provides a wide range of services for low to moderate-income monolingual and bilingual Asian immigrants. It offers opportunities for cross-cultural experience, self-improvement and leadership development and is opened to all members of our community. In 2003, AWRC was awarded a grant to start  family resource centers that serve the Richmond and Sunset Communities. This was the beginning  of Asian Family Support Center.
